Automobiles in German Town Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were notified by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Police say they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Police then located numerous other marked automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police say initial examinations show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for tips.

A high-ranking political figure stated the attack rendered him without words and needed to be addressed promptly.

"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
